When I'm the reader

I hate writing mistakes.

I think it comes from years of correcting them as a teacher, but also because I hate making mistakes in my own writing. I work hard to keep them to a minimum.

That’s why I can’t stand it when I’m reading an article or website and I find spelling or grammar mistakes or incoherent text.

I cringe, my eyes twitch. In short, UGH.

It makes a difference for me when I’m evaluating the trustworthiness of a company or organization. It shows me how much care they put into their texts.

And it’s not just about my professional standards and “eye for detail.”

There are times when I genuinely get confused due to these types of mistakes. It’s also important to remember that your copy needs to be accessible to a global audience. While a native or proficient user may miss a mistake, someone else may get thrown off by the wrong verb or something else.

It’s imperative to have crisp and clean copy on a website that is accessible to readers from around the world.

That’s one of the things I keep in mind when writing my copy or editing the work of others.

Find a writer or editor and get your copy straightened out!
